Been practicing in the field since 2004

Over 16 years working in Interior Design, Visual Merchandising and Home Staging. I can tailor my approach to a variety of clients, depending on their objective. Staging a house for a flip versus furnishing a home for a family are two very different skill sets, but I am experienced with both. I am able to think creatively to solve problems when budget and/or time restrictions are especially pertinent. I possess a very strong knowledge of color theory and textile fabrication.

 Get To Know Me!

When did you realize you had a passion for your profession?

I was working in the internet sales department of a company that sells electronic components--the things that make up your phone, computer, television. The management team asked me to "fix up" the office where the programmers and coders worked very long hours. I talked to my colleagues to find out what sort of things would make the space function better for them and used my limited budget to give them as much as possible. I saw firsthand what a difference it made to them to have their space feel more welcoming and comfortable. They were invested in the process, willing to work around some intrusion, because they felt acknowledged. I hadn't even started design school at that point, but I saw the power of good design. I was pretty well hooked after that.

Interior Design Professionals are typically experienced with a variety of styles. Describe your favorite spaces you have created:

One of my first larger projects was a full living and dining room design in a Tudor home. The marriage of classic design, which suited a home built in the 1920s, with modern needs and function is a delicate balance. The architecture of the home wanted traditional furniture but the clients are not stuffy people. The completed rooms reflected their warmth. I designed a short term rental property recently that combined functionality, comfort and style that has been received well online. It photographed beautifully and the clients had gotten great feedback from renters. It is a large space and I was restricted by a quick timeline, tight budget and limited vendors. The larger items are neutral and the accents are bolder. This allows for eventual change to freshen the design and keep the space feeling current as a rental.

Favorite places you have visited that sparked your artistic side or inspired you to design:

-Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Oak Park (Mill Run, PA and Oak Park, Ill) since both projects beautifully integrate the surroundings into the design -The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY, NY) to see how certain well crafted furnishings stand the test of time. The stool they used in Egypt over 2000 years ago is nearly identical to what we'd use today. -Valparaiso, Chile for the way color and pattern can elevate very modest design and architecture -Gateway Arch (St. Louis, MO) is sleek and beautiful, but the story behind it is perhaps the most interesting. They solved the problems of construction and design along the way, often creating new methods as they went.

Your top 3 favorite foods to eat if all food was equally healthy:

Pulled pork
Chocolate chip cookies
Macaroni and cheese

Any other languages you are fluent in?

No

Fun fact about you:

I have visited every Major League Baseball stadium. It has been a goal of mine for several years as a huge baseball fan. Each city and stadium has such a unique personality with everything from the design of the building to the concessions served to the surrounding area. It has also exposed me to parts of the country that I might never have travelled but am certainly better for visiting. Favorites include: Cincinnati during Oktoberfest weekend, San Francisco and, of course, my hometown CitiField in New York.
